Mary Ann Sabelman
Mary Ann Sabelman works quietly behind the scenes, serving others and meeting their needs by providing numbers. Her degree from UCLA is in Anthropology, an area that doesn't, at first glance, seem directly related to finance. Her first job was in social work, helping others through difficult spots in their lives, then she left the workforce to be a stay at home mom.
When her children went to college, she went back to work, but for H and R Block, helping clients with their income tax forms from January to mid-April each year. After several years, she moved to a more generalized part of the finance world, bookkeeping.
Since October 1998, she has been Treasurer at Grace, working 16 hours each week. Mary Ann's responsibilities include recording income, handling all the outgoing money, paying the bills (yes, the church does need to pay the utility bill, just like any homeowner or business), payroll and taxes, preparing the monthly financial report before the council meeting, serving on the finance committee and council, and handling the financial portions of contracts with various service providers. Again, she helps the people of Grace to get what they need by providing the numbers. If you have a question about the finances, she will gladly help with the answer.
Mary Ann does have a life outside of numbers, she enjoys reading, time with family, and quilting, though perhaps quilting, with its regular squares and patterns, could be considered as just another way of working with numbers.
