We respond to God’s activity in our world in ways that resonate with today’s readings. Sometimes we might feel laughter coming on towards a faith that is seen as foolish by some. As believers, though, I believe that we are often fearful that God will really turn our lives upside down. However, today’s accounts remind us that God’s activity in this world from new Spring flowers to healing in hospitals bring life and hope to our lives. Does that life and hope come in our time and way? No. However, during this Lenten journey, we are brought near to God’s new life here and now.

Faith & Healing

Two healing accounts of sorts today. The centurion’s slave and raising the son of the widow from the dead. The centurion’s faith impresses Jesus, but it’s clear from the text that Jesus intended to go there anyway. Curiously faith is not mentioned in the raising of the young man. Jesus is impressed by faith, but it is not a prerequisite for healing. Jesus acts, Jesus touches, Jesus heals . . . . where in our hearts and lives do we need to feel the healing touch of Christ? Do we have faith to turn towards him?
